The Future Is Bright!

October 31, 2009
By Redd Rider of Good Hope High School

Raider Sports Network is excited about the 2010 Raider Football Team!  After a struggling year with a young squad, the Raiders will spend the off season conditioning and training.

The Raiders fell behind early allowing three touchdowns in the first quarter.  Scott Motes connected with Jordan Harbison in the second quarter but the kick failed.  After Taylor Hollis intercepted a Trent Hardeman pass in the end zone the Raiders marched down the field and Hollis made a 2 yard touchdown run.  Motes then threw a pass to Christopher Davis for the 2 point conversion making the score 28-14.  On the ensuing kickoff, Fairview's King ran back 80 yards to negate the Raider's score.

The thing Raider Sports Network likes about these Raiders is the fact that they never quit regardless of the score!  That says a lot for the character of this squad.

Good Hope is used to having a winning season but will have to build off this year to regain that success next year!

Good Hope ended the season 2-8.

STRONG FIRST QUARTER SETS THE TONE FOR THE AGGIES:
With 200 yards of offense and three trips to the end zone in the first quarter, the Fairview Aggies became the best team in the county school system to go 8-2 in the regular season and reach the eight-win plateau for the first time since Dafford Smith led the squad to the same mark in 1994.
The Aggies ran for 126 yards in the first period with a 62-yard run by Justin Studdard setting up the first score of the game in which Hardman scored from the one. The senior quarterback was effective in the passing game in the first period going four for four for 74 yards and hitting Eric King for a 28-yard TD that pushed the margin to 21-0.

Hardman was intercepted by McDonald in the second quarter and Good Hope responded with a 61-yard drive as Scott Motes found Nicholas Harbison open in the end zone from 13 yards out.
Then the Aggies got a fourth TD in the opening half as Hardman and King again teamed up with this score covering 29 yards and a 28-6 halftime cushion.
After the Raiders closed to 28-14 with an 80-yard march in nine snaps. Fairview prevented Good Hope from making a game of it thanks to King taking the ensuing kickoff and getting free down the right sidelines 80 yards for his third TD in the game and the one that gave George Redding's squad plenty of breathing room for the rest of the night.

Good Hope was moving toward the Fairview end zone but on the first play of the fourth quarter, Jordan Carter intercepted at the Aggies' 10 and the Raiders were never to get deep into Fairview's side of the field for the remainer of the contest.

Late in the game, Redding pulled his starters and his seniors as they said goodbye with a solid performance. Offensive lineman/nose guard Steven Tanner told Sportspage late in the fourth quarter he was very tired from having a solid night especially on the defensive side in which his name was mentioned by public address announcer Marc Harris several times for having solo and assistance tackles.

Now the Aggies take their best regular season record of this decade into Tuscumbia next week for a first round Class 4A playoff game at Region 8 champion Deshler.
